Esports is making its way to Northern Michigan.
Northwestern Michigan College has announced their new esports competitive gaming teams.
There will be a varsity and a JV team.
Together teams are able to play video games and face off with different teams from different colleges across the state and across the country.
Director of educational technology for NMC, Terri Gustafson says this activity helps student develop leadership and communication skills.
Gustafson says, “We did a little research and then we talked to some community members and found out that there was a big interest in the area. Actually, there aren’t any other programs in Northern Michigan as of yet at the college level, other than Ferris State.”
NMC says this program won’t be launching until the Fall of 2021.
