The PlayStation 5 is currently quite difficult for people to get their hands on, with Tekken 8’s director Katsuhiro Harada being no exception.
The director of the Tekken series revealed he still can’t get his hands on a PlayStation 5, despite building the newest game in the series for the console.
Katsuhiro Harada made a Tweet reenacting an amusing conversation he had with officers from Sony and Bandai surrounding the official announcement of Tekken 8 to the public. However, the conversation led to Harada admitting that he was yet to own a PS5, which surprised all parties involved.
Followers of Harada also expressed their disbelief, while others replied in solidarity and admitted they were also struggling to get their hands on one. Some even went as far as to offer to share their console with him. The popular PS5 remains notoriously difficult to find, with Sony and other major tech companies still struggling to match demand due to the effects of the global pandemic on production. Scalpers are also a considerable problem, buying PS5 consoles in bulk in order to resell them at exorbitant prices despite efforts by retailers to limit the number each customer can buy to prevent this.
Tekken 8 is an upcoming fighting game developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It is the 18th main and 10th overall installment in the Tekken series. The series of 3D fighting games were initially developed for arcades, but versions of several sequels as well as updates and spin-off titles exist for various platforms, including the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, WonderSwan and Game Boy Advance. The latest addition was revealed at Evo 2022 with a brief teaser showing gameplay from the Playstation 5.
The PS5 is the newest in the Playstation family of consoles developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Announced in 2019 as the successor to the PlayStation 4, the PS5 was released on November 12, 2020, in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, North America and South Korea, with a worldwide release a week later. Over 21.4 million units have been sold as of July 29, 2022, and it is Sony’s fastest-selling console unit to date. The company later confirmed that by June 30, 2021, it had shipped 10.1 million consoles, indicating that nearly every console had sold as soon as it reached the market.
Tekken 8 will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. At the time of writing, no official release date for the title has been confirmed.
