When you hear someone mention Pokémon Snap, what comes to mind? Do you think of the recently released Nintendo Switch game? If not, chances are you remember Pokémon Snap from the N64 days. Many people do. Some developers have even taken inspiration from the game. Take Penko Park for example. Developed by Ghostbutter, the game is an on-rails adventure in which the player tours the eponymous Penko Park, photographing wildlife along the way. Based on the premise alone, Nintendo’s influence is plain to see. Perhaps it’s fitting, then, that Penko Park is now available on Nintendo Switch.
Penko Park‘s publisher, Secret Mode, announced the Nintendo Switch release in a press release earlier today.
“Releasing Penko Park on Nintendo Switch is a dream come true,” says Konstantin Kopka, Co-Founder of Ghostbutter. “It won’t surprise anybody to learn that our childhood memories of playing Pokémon Snap on the Nintendo 64 formed part our inspiration. Our favourite games of all time all live on Nintendo platforms, so on a personal level it means everything to bring Penko Park to a Nintendo console and to Nintendo gamers.”
Penko Park is available on Nintendo Switch and PC.
It’s worth noting that before this game came to Switch, it made a home on PC, where Secret Mode says it has done fairly well.
” “To discover Penko Park is to love Penko Park,” says James Schall, Director of Publishing at Secret Mode. “Ghostbutter has made a wonderful adventure, and almost everybody who plays this game falls in love with it. Nothing showcases this more than its phenomenal 99% positive User Reviews rating on PC, which has seen Penko Park rise to #12 in Steam250’s all-time top Hidden Gems ranking. The moment we saw Penko Park here at Secret Mode we knew it was a perfect title for Nintendo Switch, and so we’re honoured to help bring Penko Park to its spiritual home.” ”
So, what exactly is Penko Park? Well, like Pokémon Snap, Penko Park is an on-rails game about photographing wildlife. Unlike Pokémon Snap, this game has a slightly darker twist: Aside from the creatures who have made their habitats there, Penko Park is abandoned.
“Sadly, the park was abandoned, but you’ve been given the opportunity to enjoy a personal tour by resident guide Penki and can record pictures of your travels with your complimentary Penko Snap-A-Lot 9000™ device.”
If this premise intrigues you, then here’s some good news. You can pick up Penko Park right now on PC and Nintendo Switch.
