Chicago teens looking for something fun and safe to do over Memorial Day weekend can head downtown to the Harold Washington Library for Gamer’s Universe.
The event is a free-of-charge gaming convention, designed by the Chicago Teen Gamers Guild. Justin Shannin, teen services library associate, says there’s something at the convention for every level of gamer.
“It is dedicated to gaming of all forms – so there will be video games there, board gaming there, a scavenger hunt, someone from an escape room company is coming in to talk about how they do immersive design in stories, a professional costume designer is going to be coming in to lead a workshop on how to create your own cosplay, so you can then go into a cosplay contest after – so gaming of all types for all ages.” Shannin said.
The one-day convention takes place between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, and participants can sign up for some activities in advance on the event website.
There will also be a Mortal Kombat X tournament starting at 1:30 p.m., followed by a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament at 3 p.m. At 5 p.m., the library will close, but those participating in the Super Smash tournament will be able to stay after hours until 9 p.m.
