Outriders’ Launch Performance, April’s PS Now Games, & More

It’s a new week with lots more video game news to cover, such as the announcement of April’s PS Now games. We also have a better idea of Outriders sales launch performance in the U.K., Apex Legends Season 9 will get more Titanfall content, and more. Here’s the video game news you might’ve missed on April 5, 2021.

April’s PS Now Games Include Borderlands 3 and Marvel’s Avengers

Sony has announced the latest list of PS Now games for the month of April 2021, and while the lineup is noteworthy, it comes with some caveats. Joining the service tomorrow, April 6, 2021, are the following games:

  • Borderlands 3
  • Marvel’s Avengers
  • The Long Dark

The problem is that Marvel’s Avengers will only be available until July 5, while Borderlands 3 will remain on the service until Sept. 29. The Long Dark doesn’t have a set removal date, so that will be available until further notice.

Apex Legends Season 9 Will Incorporate More Titanfall Content

As part of the Brown Girl Gamer Code developer panel, Apex Legends game director Chad Grenier told fans to expect more Titanfall content in the game’s ninth season. Specifically, Grenier said that “you’re going to see a ton of Titanfall coming into [Apex] in one way or another. If you’re a Titanfall fan, hang on for Season 9.”

Apex Legends writer Ashley Reed added, “Titanfall is a war story — Apex is life after the war. We’re trying to integrate Titanfall into that. We’re looking at what Titanfall means for this universe. It has lasting impacts that are going to become bigger and bigger.” As you might be aware, Apex Legends takes place in the Titanfall universe, but the two series play very differently from one another, so it’ll be interesting how Respawn integrates the two during Season 9.

The Monster Hunter Series Has Surpassed 70 Million Units Shipped Thanks to Rise’s Performance

Monster Hunter is one of Capcom’s most successful franchises, and recently, the series surpassed 70 million units shipped worldwide. This is due in part to the performance of Monster Hunter Rise, which just surpassed 5 million units shipped in less than two weeks. Of course, Monster Hunter: World is Capcom’s bestselling game, which has reached over 16 million units sold as of 2020. Considering Rise is only available on Nintendo Switch, its performance thus far is impressive.

Of the game’s overall player base, 52% were on PlayStation 5, while 31% were on PlayStation 4. These stats only pertain to physical sales and do not include any downloads via Xbox Game Pass.
