PC volleyball snap losing skid in sweep over Morningside | Sports

The Presentation College Saints volleyball squad snapped the losing skid as they swept the Mustangs of Morningside in three sets.

The Saints and Mustangs battled close in the first set as there were 13 recorded ties. Saige Jones scored the final tie point of the first set, receiving a set from Rebecca Allen for the Kill. Laura Babcock recorded a service ace as Constence Rollins and Camryn Shockley recorded kills as the Saints took their largest lead of the set at 20-17. The Mustangs got within one at 20-19 on an attacking error by Shockley before the Saints added two kills to win the first set 25-22.

Using the momentum of the first set, the Saints opened the second set on a 7-2 run. The Mustangs answered with four points before a block by Morgan Moelter started the Saints on an 8-2 run and four kills. The Mustangs brought the game with four at 15-12 before Moelter found an answer for the Saints with a kill. Led by Allen, the Saints went on a 9-3 run to end the second set. The Saints posted a 25-15 score for the second set.

Looking to sweep the Mustangs, the Saints opened the third set on a 7-3 run with two early service aces. The Mustangs would get within two several times early before bringing the game within one at 12-11. Ashley Alfonso extended the Saints lead back to three with back-to-back kills as the Mustangs were unable to stop the balanced offensive attack from the Saints. Shockley and Rollins recorded five kills in the final points for the Saints as the Saints defeated the Mustangs 25-21.

The Saints will hit the road for a pair of conference games this weekend. They are slated to take on Valley City State today before taking on Dickinson State on March 20.
