A new Pikmin game is coming next year. Nintendo officially pulled back the curtain on Pikmin 4 during its September Nintendo Direct presentation. The game is slated to launch for Switch sometime in 2023.
Although the company didn’t share any footage of the game during the broadcast, longtime designer Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that this time around, you’ll play from the Pikmin’s perspective near the ground, rather than from the isometric viewpoint of previous titles. You can watch the first teaser trailer below.
Pikmin 4 arrives nearly a decade after the series’ last mainline installment, Wii U’s Pikmin 3. That title was ported to the Switch with additional content as Pikmin 3 Deluxe back in 2020. If you’ve yet to jump into the series, the digital version is currently on sale in the Nintendo eShop for $42 — 30% off its usual price. The sale runs until Sept. 26.
Nintendo also recently teamed up with Pokemon Go developer Niantic to release Pikmin Bloom, an augmented-reality walking game for phones.
The Nintendo Direct was packed with other announcements. Nintendo released a new trailer for the Breath of the Wild sequel, now known as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The company also revealed the next wave of N64 games coming to Nintendo Switch Online, including the beloved GoldenEye 007.
