PlayStation may have accidentally revealed that it’s acquired Bluepoint Games

PlayStation‘s Japanese Twitter account has seemingly leaked news that it’s acquired Demon’s Souls developer Bluepoint Games.

The account posted a tweet (which has since been deleted) announcing PlayStation’s acquisition of Returnal developer Housemarque, which was officially announced today as planned.

However, the image accompanying the tweet instead showed the Bluepoint Games logo along with the message “welcome to the family”.

The image shows artwork from other PlayStation Studios games, including Returnal, but also includes Demon’s Souls art.

This suggests that Sony is soon planning to announce acquisition of Bluepoint Games shortly after its Housemarque acquisition news, as a sort of one-two punch.

Sony announced earlier today that it has acquired Returnal developer Housemarque as the latest addition to its PlayStation Studios group.

In a new post on the official PlayStation Blog, PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst revealed that the Returnal developer was now part of the Sony family.

“I have been a fan of Housemarque since the studio’s early days when they introduced Super Stardust HD to PlayStation fans,” Hulst said in a statement.

“Housemarque’s recent release of Returnal proves the studio is one with incredible vision, capable of creating memorable new games that resonate with our community. This addition enhances the creative force of PlayStation Studios, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Housemarque.”

Bluepoint’s most recent title was its PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls

Bluepoint Games specialises in remakes and remasters of older games, having previously worked on the likes of God of War Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection for Sony.

In recent years, the studio developed a remake of Shadow of the Colossus for PS4, followed by its remake of Demon’s Souls which was a PS5 launch title.

VGC’s Demon Souls review called it “one of the best launch games ever”.
