PlayStation Tournaments Public Beta, now available on PS5

Sony announced that the PlayStation Tournaments public beta is coming to the US now on PS5, with the company hoping to get feedback from players starting with Guilty Gear Strive. This on-console tournament feature promises to make entering competitions easier with new features, shorter tournament times, and simple sign-ups. The public beta will expand to more countries with new titles.

How to sign up for the PS5 Xbox Tournament.

First off you’re able to stay in the eligible country (in this case, US), have a PS Plus member at any tier, internet connection of course, and live in the PS5 version of the game supported by PlayStation Tournaments. If you’re satisfied with this, you can head to the game application for the Guilty Gear Strive (and other games) page and click down to see the number of tournaments you have left available, and complete the activity card by opening the competition.

The prospect of using the Activity Card during the competition helps you to see the status of the bracket, and track progress throughout the competition. Competitors will be alerted by an on-console warning of two minutes before their next match will start. It’s time for them to do something else as long as they wait for it. You’ll see the results of the tournament and earn a prize in the event that you’re at home. In the beta, this avatar will be a special avatar, but once PlayStation Tournaments officially begin in the coming months, cash prizes and other rewards will be available for grabs.

According to the official rules, the Guilty Gear Strive tournament format for the beta will be 1v1 single elimination with random players seeding and a limit of 9% time. Players will have five minutes to start a match before receiving an automatic loss.

It’s unclear which games will be added to the beta over the next few months, but given the number of games available now through PlayStation Tournaments on PS4, the most likely contenders include Madden NFL 22, Apex Legends, NBA 2K22, Dragon Ball FighterZ, FIFA 22, Rainbow Six: Siege, Mortal Kombat 11 and Street Fighter 5.

In other news, Babylons Fall has been given away for free at select stores. Note that the upgrade to 10.01 is expected to bring significant performance improvements.
