While most of Japan is still in Oshougatsu vacation mode, we got some news from Natsume Atari with a Japanese release date of April 21, 2022 for Pocky & Rocky Reshrined. The announcement comes from this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine.
The Famitsu magazine features a preview of Pocky & Rocky Reshrined, with a look at new screenshots and characters designed by Yoshitoo Asari. This week’s Famitsu also shows new gameplay modes too, but unfortunately, we don’t get to see any of them in the website preview. We’ll probably get a first look in the coming days, so stay tuned for more details.
The game follows a Shinto shrine maiden named Pocky and her raccoon companion Rocky. While Reshrined features a brand new engine and is made using modern gaming technology, it retains its original style. That’s top-down, multi-directional scrolling shooter action along with the 16-bit audio and visual aesthetic.
Pocky & Rocky Reshrined launches in Japan for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on its new release date of April 21, 2022. The Western release window is spring 2022. Natsume Atari and Tengo Project delayed the title from its fall 2021 window due to “various circumstances” back in October. In any case, now that we have a release date for Pocky & Rocky Reshrined in Japan, it shouldn’t be long until we get one for the West. For now, you can watch a gameplay trailer.
