For the vast majority of devices this won’t be a problem, and normal service will continue without you realising anything was amiss whatsoever.
But if you’re running a patch that’s a number of years old you could be left with significant service disruption.
Devices that could be impacted include Apple iPhones running an update lower than iOS 10 and Android devices using a patch below 7.1.1.
And, if you’re a PS4 owner, you’ll want to make sure you’re using a firmware patch above 5.0.0.
Seeing as the latest PS4 update was version 9.0.0, chances are you’ll be fine and avert any potential danger.
But if you’ve bought a second hand PS4 recently, or don’t hook your system up to the internet often, it may be worth double checking what software build you’re running.
