It turns out that the PS5 DualSense controller does have warranty in India after all. In the run up to the PS5 India launch, Sony had informed Indian retailers that the DualSense controller as well as other accessories like the HD Camera and media remote would not have warranty in the country. This policy was in place since the PS2 era though with PS5 DualSense controller having drift issues to the point where a class action lawsuit is works, multiple reports of adaptive triggers not working, and its high price tag, you’d think Sony India would know better.
However, multiple IGN India readers reached out to confirm that Sony’s service centres across the country have been replacing DualSense controllers for issues ranging from the aforementioned stick drift to having a faulty touchpad. Furthermore, members of a prominent PS5 Discord server confirmed that Sony has been replacing malfunctioning DualSense controllers as well with customers waiting over a week for replacements. IGN India has verified these claims to be accurate.
IGN India reached out to Sony multiple times for comment regarding the DualSense controller’s India warranty since documentation for it alongside the PS5’s India warranty terms surfaced on Sony’s own website.
While it is yet to get back to us on this issue officially, multiple sources at the company familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified discussing private information have stated that “standard warranty terms apply” for all PS5 accessories and controllers.
So why are game stores in the country not made aware of this? Our sources tell us that this is due to unclear policies and training material given to Sony’s sales force. Prior to the PS5 India launch, Sony’s sales teams briefed retailers on the PS5’s many features as well as its accessories. At the time it was explicitly stated that only the PS5 would have a one year warranty and nothing else.
PS5 DualSense India Warranty Terms
Official DualSense purchases made in India will have a 12 month warranty according to the manual uploaded on Sony’s own site. “This product is guaranteed for 12 months from date of purchase by the manufacturer’s guarantee.” For Indian PS5 owners this essentially means that you get a replacement DualSense in the event yours turns faulty during the first 12 months of ownership. This applies to the DualSense controller included with the PS5 console as well.
PS5 India Warranty Terms
The PS5 has a one year warranty from date of original purchase and Sony is committing to repair or replace any component free of cost “where it is faulty due to defective materials or workmanship”. Sony claims that any replacements or repairs made at its discretion are guaranteed for “the longer of the three months and the remainder of the original guarantee period” and that any repairs or replacements to be done will be done within 21 days of receiving the defective PS5.
You can check out all the details for the PS5 India warranty on the official PlayStation website.
