PS5 restock UK – live: Amazon and Ebuyer PS5 out of stock, updates on ShopTo and Game

With an eye on all the major retailers, follow live for the latest news

(The Independent)

Update: The PS5 is now out of stock at Amazon and Ebuyer. Smyths could be next. Read on for more information.

The PS5 console was released more than six months ago, but if you’re a gamer you’ll know how hard it has been to get your hands on the latest device.

Restock issues have been plaguing Sony since the reveal, and despite stores reopening in the UK as lockdown measures lift, the situation doesn’t seem to be getting much better.

It has become so difficult for people to get their hands on a PS5 that it’s spawned a whole Twitter community of stock trackers, as well as a 24,500-strong community of Redditors all trying to nab the console before it sells out again.

But, it’s not all bad news, as Very, Littlewoods and Shopto all restocked yesterday, with Game following shortly behind. Currys sent out VIP codes too. Last week, we saw smaller drops at AO and Amazon, as well as another restock from Game that lasted an hour and a half.

Owing to the high demand, we’re here to help you get your hands on the coveted Playstation by keeping an eye on all major retailers, as well as offering the latest details on any rumoured releases. Follow live so you don’t miss out.

Update on an Argos PS5 restock

Argos last had a PS5 restock on 10 May at around 3am but it sold out within a few hours. For those of you expecting another Argos drop soemtime this month, we might have bad news for you.

This morning, a PS5 Twitter stock tracking page alleged that the retailer’s internal stock systems now show a date of 5 July for new PS5 shipment arrivals. Shipments usually arrive one or two weeks earlier, hinting that there won’t be another drop until 28 June. We’re crying buckets.

Hacks for securing a PS5 at Game, Amazon, Argos and Asda

After tracking PS5 restocks day in and day out, we’ve picked up a few things when it comes to securing one at some of the biggest retailers. Here are a few of our top tips for Game, Amazon, Argos and Asda.

Game – Whenever there’s a drop, always go for a PS5 bundle rather than a single PS5. The single PS5 consoles appear to sell out quicker than bundles. And try to judge it based on which bundle you think will be the least popular.

Amazon – Amazon’s website has the most durable servers compared to the other retailers, so the website shouldn’t crash. That said, Amazon Smile – a different website where Amazon donates 0.5 per cent of the cost of all eligible products to a chosen charity, always has less traffic. Another tip is to add the PS5 to your Wishlist and then add it to your basket that way.

Argos – The retailer’s site has crashed in the past, so we’d recommend downloading the Argos app and trying to checkout that way.

Asda – Another retailer where it’s quicker and works better if you add it to your wish list before adding it to your basket. No idea why this one works, but more people were able to check out this way if they added it to their wish list before adding it to the basket.

Why are PS5 still sold out?

It’s been seven months since the PS5 came out and people are still struggling to secure Sony’s next-gen console. Why? Essentially, it’s all because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A combination of production lines shutting down and people staying at home with nothing to do led to an increased demand for semiconductors, which most consumer electronics run on, including the PS5. Plus the Ever Given cargo ship blocking the Suez Canal didn’t help either. For a full breakdown on why there’s a PS5 shortage, have a read of our explainer below.

The last Very PS5 console drop happened 72 days ago

The last time Very restocked the PS5 was literally months ago – on 10 March. And like with other retailers, it was a nightmare for shoppers to acquire one. Stock sold out almost straight away, and people were forced to sit in a waiting room, instead of a queue (as with Game).

When the PS5 dropped at Very, fans were advised to copy a specific link into their notes app, and then click through to the Very website from that link. It meant that users would be sent into a waiting room, rather than having to stare at a page that failed to load. You can read a recap of what happened below. Expect the same to happen during the next Very PS5 drop.

When will PS5 be back in stock in the UK?

It’s the million dollar question. Very and John Lewis are expected to be the next retailers to have PS5 drops in the UK.

If the rumours of a Very drop today turn out to be true, it would make this week one of the best weeks for PS5 drops since March, seeing as this week we’ve already had drops at Amazon, a drop yesterday at Game, and one at AO and Asda.

AO PS5 restock update UK

AO is another retailer which had a tiny, tiny PS5 drop earlier this week on 20 May, with the console reportedly selling out in a couple of minutes. When stock goes live, it’s always recommended to give the retailer a ring and place an order over the phone.

There is another trick to getting the PS5 if traffic on the product page itself is high. It takes a little bit of effort and you’ll need to be using a computer, but if you’re really desperate for the console, this is the way to do it. Have a watch of the video uploaded by a PS5 stock tracking page below.

Corsair SCUF PS5 controller is in the works

In less than a month, we’ll finally be getting some fresh new PS5 dualsense controllers in some sexy new colourways – cosmic red and midnight black, both of which can be pre-ordered now. But for those of you waiting for a Scuf PS5 controller, Andy Paul, CEO of Scuf’s parent company Corsair revealed in its latest earning call that one is in the works.

“We’re obviously working as fast as we can to get out [the] PS5 controller,” Paul said. “We haven’t released when that will be, but I suspect we’ll be pretty early in the market compared to any of our competitors.”

If you have a Scuf PS4 controller already, it will work with PS4 games being played on the PS5, but not PS5 exclusives.
