PS5 restock UK – Will 2022 be a better year to buy a PlayStation 5? | Gaming | Entertainment

There are hopes that 2022 will be a better year for buying a PS5, with stock constraints still expected to hold up gamers buying a next-gen console over the coming months.

Retailers like Argos, GAME, Currys and Amazon are all expected to drop more shipments in January, but none will be able to keep up with demand.

This has been the case throughout 2021, and there have been no indications that the situation will improve in the early months of next year.

However, there are promising signs that more of the most important items will be available to Sony and Microsoft when it comes to holiday season 2022.

The latest update on the situation was shared by AMD CEO Lisa Su, with the company being one of the key component suppliers for the PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

The good news is that AMD is planning on ramping up its own supply chain, which can only be good news for those still trying to buy a PS5.

In a new statement shared during an AMD investment meeting, Lisa Su commented: “Well, I think — first of all, I think the console business, this console cycle and all when you look at it in totality, has been amazing.

“I mean if you think about the strength of the cycle, now we’re sort of deep into the second year and the fact that the demand is so high. I mean we’ve been shipping a lot of product.

“So the fact that the demand is still high says something about just sort of the product capability that’s been captured by both Microsoft and Sony in this console cycle. We’re continuing to ramp up production. We expect 2022 to be another strong growth year for consoles.

“If you look at the typical console cycle, the peak year is actually the fourth year typically. And so you would expect maybe 2023 would be the peak year.”

Adding: “But to the overall point is, look, it’s a great platform.

“We love the fact that we have so many users that are using AMD technology on the console platform and we’ll continue to ramp up supply. And from a seasonality standpoint, yes, you’re right. Seasonality does become more muted in this environment until we get to sort of a more normalized environment.”

It sounds like 2022 will be a better year to buy a PS5 console in the UK, however, gamers will have to wait and see just how many stock drops to expect when it comes to January and the following months.
