The NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella has revealed that the PS5 remains the best-selling home console in the US in 2021 based on life-to-date dollar sales. In terms of units, the Nintendo Switch reigns supreme.
That’s an impressive feat for a console that is still not readily available worldwide due to ongoing stock shortages, something which is reportedly causing Sony to cut down on production for PS5.
In terms of hardware for October 2021, the Nintendo Switch took the lion’s share of sales thanks to the launch of the OLED model, resulting in the platform coming out on top in terms of units and dollars. Overall, hardware dollar sales increased by 82% year-on-year, reaching $472 million.
Elsewhere, Piscatella revealed that Far Cry 6 was the best-selling video game in October 2021 in the US, also ranking number one for both PlayStation and Xbox software charts. It’s currently ranked as the eighth best-selling game of the year.
