PS5 stock live: Argos and Currys are still selling the console at its old, lower price

On the hunt for the elusive console? Here’s where you can buy it today

Since its 2020 launch, the PlayStation 5 has been difficult to get hold of as pandemic-related supply chain issues slowed production. The stock situation has improved massively in recent months, with PS5 bundles readily available. However, Sony has increased the PS5’s price due to inflation, and this has already come into effect at some retailers.

Luckily, we’ve spotted a few bundles available at the original, pre-increase price. Today, such bundles are available at ShopTo, Argos, Currys, EE, Scan, Hughes and Box. PS5 digital edition bundles are in stock at BT Shop for BT customers. Bundles have gone up to their new price at Game, and the console is available to pre-order at Very, but carries the new price.

Because retailers prefer pricier bundles, standalone consoles are sparse and sell out quickly. While the standard edition PS5 is easier to snag, the cheaper digital edition is trickier to find.

Game has a lot of PS5 bundles in stock, but with higher prices

As we explained in our introduction above, Sony recently announced a price increase for both versions of the PS5 in the UK and across Europe, due to inflation. Some retailers are stocking with the old price for now, while others have increased theirs in line with Sony’s.

While Curry is among the former, Game has taken the latter approach and bumped up its bundle prices. Standalone consoles aren’t in stock, so for now the cheapest option is a PS5 disc edition with a second Dualsense controller and a ‘Player ‘ branded controller case. This bundle is priced at £539.98 and it’s available now.

Spend a bit more, and the same console is available with a second controller and Horizon Forbidden West, but no controller case, for £589.98.

Game’s priciest bundle costs £659.97 and includes a disc edition console, second controller, Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7.

How to buy a PS5 digital edition

BT is one of the only retailers to currently have the lesser-spotted PS5 digital edition in stock. This version is cheaper owing to it not having a disc drive, but has been very difficult to hunt down since the PS5 arrived back in 2020.

Consoles stocked on the  BT Shop website are available exclusively to existing BT customers, who receive an access code when logging into their account. Pop this code into the BT Shop site, and you can buy a console.

BT’s PS5 deals start at £459.99 for the digital edition with a second Dualsense controller and Horizon Forbidden West. BT also has the disc edition in stock with Horizon Forbidden West for £499.99, or with a second controller and no games for £508.98.

This is the perfect PS5 bundle for F1 fans

If you’re a Formula One fan, this is the PS5 bundle for you. Available now from electronics retailer Box, the bundle includes a PS5 disc edition, plus F1 2022 and the Thrustmaster T150 steering wheel and pedal set.

Box also has a second bundle unstuck. This one is priced at £744.99 and includes the same console and steering wheel as above, but swaps out F1 2022 for Gran Turismo 7 and Horizon Forbidden West.

The best 4K TV for your new PS5

While we wait for the next PS5 restock, it’s time to think about upgrading your television. The PS5 outputs video at 4K resolution and can even handle games running at 120 frames per second. That’s something not all TVs can manage, so if you want to see your new console running at its best, a new TV could be worthwhile.

We’ve rounded up nine of the best 4K TVs available right now, from manufacturers including Samsung, LG, Sony and Panasonic, among others. And the great news is you don’t need to spend a fortune to get a great 4K television – prices of our favourites start at under £400.

Here’s how to pay monthly for a PS5 from EE

EE customers can add a PS5 console to their monthly phone bill. This is the disc edition of the PS5, comes with Horizon Forbidden West and a second Dualsense controller, and is priced at £10 upfront then £52 a month for 11 months. That makes a total cost of £582.

How big is the PS5?

Not as strange a question as you might think, because the PS5 is massive. It’s often an easy joke to say how big the next generation of game consoles are, ever since the chunky original Xbox arrived, followed by the even bigger PS4.

But, while the Xbox series X is also rather large, it’s the PS5 that is least likely to fit under your television. The digital edition is slightly slimmer, due to not having a disc drive, but both consoles are equally tall when stood on end.

They are 390mm tall and 260mm deep, while the disc edition is 104mm thick and the digital edition is 92mm. Both consoles are intended to be stood upright, but also come with a plastic stand to help them rest on their side – likely the only way most buyers will fit the console under their TV.

This bundle is available at Scan, but isn’t cheap

Computing and electronics retailer Scan has one PS5 bundle in stock. It is priced at £719.99, making it one of the most expensive bundles available today, but will appeal to gamers who want to get the most out of their console. It includes the PS5 disc edition, Horizon Forbidden West and a second Dualsense controller, plus a 1TB storage expansion drive and a Sabrent heatsink to keep all of that extra storage cool while gaming.

Currys has loads of PS5 bundles in stock

Currys is currently one of the best places to buy a PS5. The console isn’t available on its own, and the cheaper digital edition isn’t in stock either, but if you want a disc edition bundle then Currys has you covered.

Bundles are priced from £599 for a disc console with Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7 and Lego Star Wars, to £729 for the console and those games, plus a second Dualsense controller and a SteelSeries wireless gaming headset.

What happened to Smyths Toys?

It feels like ages since we last reported on PS5 stock being available at Smyths Toys. The retailer’s website said stock was due in August, but now its September and the estimate has switched to say consoles will eventually arrive this month instead. That’s for the disc edition with either Gran Turismo 7 or Horizon Forbidden West. Consoles on their own are due at Smyths at some point in 2022, but no more detail is provided.

As for in-store availability, it looks like all branches of Smyths are completely sold out of PS5 stock. We’ll keep you posted on when this situation changes.
