As we reach the end of 2021, the PlayStation 5 (PS5) is still difficult to buy in the UK, both online and in-store. The Sony game console has been on sale for over a year now, but supply problems and a worldwide semiconductor shortage sparked by the coronavirus pandemic have caused the production of the device to slow to a crawl.
If you didn’t find the console under your tree on Christmas Day, fear not, because the IndyBest team is here to help. This has been the best month for restocks on record, with several restocks taking place at Smyths Toys, Currys, PlayStation Direct, ShopTo, Very, Littlewoods, Game, Studio, Argos, EE, BT, Asda, AO, John Lewis & Partners and Amazon, but will this trend continue into the new year?

John Lewis PS5 stock prediction
John Lewis hasn’t had much PS5 stock through 2021. We saw a couple of restocks in September, followed by one in October, a small drop in November, and the most recent on 29 December. Not exactly helpful when it came to Christmas shopping.
We wouldn’t bet against a restock arriving at some point in January, but we really can’t be more specific than that for now. You are probably best off looking elsewhere.

PS5 stock arrives in some branches of Game
We’re seeing PS5 stock available to buy right now at some branches of Game. As usual, the stores tweet about PS5 (and Xbox series X) stock levels, with Dumfries and Merchant Street among the stores with consoles available today.
As ever, you’ll need to be quick as these in-store consoles tend to be in short supply and sell out very quickly.

When to expect a restock at Currys
After a quiet November with just one restock, Currys had a massive December. According to our records, PS5 consoles landed at the retailer on 2, 7, 14, 17, 21, 22, 24 and 28 December. Talk about a Christmas miracle. Hopefully this momentum will continue into the new year, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see a quieter spell for Currys in January, given how busy the last few weeks have been.

When did Amazon last have a PS5 restock?
We last saw PS5 consoles available at Amazon‘s UK website on 23 December. As such, it could be a while now before another restock arrives. We saw just one restock in November, then pre-Christmas restocks landed on 15, 21 and 23 December. Hopefully January will see more consoles arrive at Amazon.

Is Very due a PS5 restock?
Yes, we think so. Very wasn’t a part of the flurry of PS5 restocks we saw just before Christmas, and the last time the retailer had consoles was on 14 December. Hopefully we’ll see a restock at Very in early January.

Can you buy a PS5 directly from Sony?
Yes and no. Sony recently launched its PS Direct website in the UK, selling PS5 consoles, games and accessories. However, both the digital and disc versions of the PS5 are currently out of stock, with no word of when this will change.
The UK PS Direct store last had consoles available to buy on 16 December, so it’s been a while now. Hopefully more stock will arrive in early January.

Can you buy a PS5 in-store today?
Potentially, but stock is more limited today than it was on Christmas Eve. Your best bet is to try your local branches of Game and Smyths, with the latter often posting about PS5 console stock on Twitter. Each Game store has its own account and you can view all of their tweets in one place with this Twitter list.
Smyths has a tool on its website for checking in-store stock across the UK, but that currently says there are no PS5s available anywhere. This might change throughout the day, so it’s worth checking regularly.

When will Game next have a restock?
Game is having a PS5 restock right now! But you can’t just put a console in your basket and expect delivery in a couple of days. Instead, this is a restock where Game lists lots of console bundles (and the PS5 on its own), which can be pre-ordered now. And in this case, the consoles and bundles will be released on 21 January. So you can order now but you’ll have to wait a few weeks to receive your console. We’re sure it’ll be worth the wait!
