We’re on the lookout for a late week Friday drop
(iStock/The Independent)
The PS5 launched in November 2020, but supply problems and a global shortage of semiconductors have slowed production of Son’y next-generation console to a crawl. New stock is hard to find, and when it does appear the PS5 sells out fast.
July has been a mixed bag so far, but restocks have been picking up pace again, with four drops last week from the likes of Very, Smyths Toys, Argos and Game. Yesterday, we saw drops at Amazon and AO, with Asda and ShopTo potentially following today.
If you’re looking to buy a PS5, there’s still hope. Our liveblog is on hand to give you the latest insight on Playstation 5 restocks from all major retailers, both online and in-store, as well as providing details on rumoured releases, the latest PS5 games and accessories to snap up.

Take a look at ‘Stray’, an upcoming PS5 game about being a cat
Of all the upcoming PS5 games, we’re most excited about Stray. The PS5 exclusive game is scheduled for release in early 2022.
In Stray you play a cat, hiding in bins, slinking around in alleyways and sneaking into houses. You know, cat stuff.
Developer BlueTwelve revealed more about this weird little indie game in a gameplay walkthrough yesterday.
If you’ve managed to bag a PS5 and need something to get stuck into before then, check out our list of the best PS5 games you can play right now.

Does the SteelSeries arctis work with PS5 3D audio?
The official Pulse 3D wireless PS5 headset (£89.99, Currys.co.uk) enables something Sony calls “3D audio” – proprietary technology that creates the illusion of sound coming from different points around you.
It’s actually nothing new. Put your headphones on and watch this video for an example of how 3D audio works. It is creepy.
As the above video demonstrates, most headphones and PS5 headsets are in fact compatible with 3D audio, so you’re free to choose something other than the Pulse 3D headset.

Want the new PS5 controller?
The chances of another PS5 drop happening this week are narrowing – but not zero – so let’s daydream about controllers for a bit, why not.
(Sony)
The PS5’s DualSense controller is by far the most interesting next-gen innovation, and sets Sony’s console apart from the more traditional Xbox series X.
Haptic feedback lets you “feel” things in games. It’s an eerie sensation that has to be experienced to be understood, but the triggers can change resistance to create the feeling that you’re pulling a trigger or twanging a spring, and the controller can vibrate in a way that simulates rough and smooth textures.
New colourways were released on 18 June, and unlike the PS5 itself, the controllers are readily available.
- DualSense controller in midnight black(£59.95, Amazon.co.uk)
- DualSense controller in original white (£56.93, Amazon.co.uk)
- DualSense controller in cosmic red (£63.38, Amazon.co.uk)

Will The ‘Ascent’ be on PS5?
Top-down twin-stick shooter The Ascent (£22.49, Xbox.com) launched to rave reviews on PC and Xbox series X/S yesterday, but will Neon Giant’s debut title come to PS5?
(Curve Digital)
The Ascent is currently an Xbox console exclusive, which not only means that you need a PC or an Xbox series X/S to play it, but that the developer can’t even mention if there are plans for a PS5 version.
Third-party games are usually timed exclusives, so we expect The Ascent will launch on PS5 and other consoles some time next year.

Is the ShopTo PS5 restock still happening today?
ShopTo didn’t restock this morning at 10am as predicted, but of all the retailers on our radar it’s still our number one candidate for potential new PS5 availability today or over the weekend.
At the last restock on 11 July the retailer sold a PlayStation 5 bundle with a midnight black dualsense controller (£59.95, Amazon.co.uk) and two of the console’s best games: Resident Evil Village (£44.99, Argos.co.uk) and Ratchet & Clank (£59.99, Amazon.co.uk).
We don’t have many tips for ShopTo, besides be prepared. The website usually crashes as soon as a drop happens, and you can be blocked for refreshing the page too often. We like a retailer with a challenge.

Need an Xbox series X instead?
If it’s any consolation to Sony, the Xbox series X is suffering the very same supply chain issues and is somehow even more out of stock than the PS5.
Microsoft’s next-generation console has been sold out for pretty much an entire month now, with just a pitiful handful of consoles popping up here and there. We’re tracking new Xbox series X stock over on our sister liveblog, in case you’re thinking of crossing the floor.
I mean, who could resist Blinky: The Time Sweeping Cat or whatever it is they play.

When is the next Game PS5 restock?
(The Independent)
Earlier this week, Game updated its PS5 bundles page with a new release date of 20 August.
The retailer reliably jumps the gun though, and drops new stock a week and a half earlier than the stated release date, so expect to see a Game PS5 restock during the second week of August.
That coincides with the heavily tipped Amazon PS5 restock on 12 August. See, it’s all connected maaaaan.

When is the next Smyths Toys PS5 restock?
We know you’re all about the here and now, but let’s take a longer view for a moment, because early August should yield a bumper crop of PS5s.
Smyths Toys last restocked on 20 July. The toy shop isn’t the easiest retailer to secure stock from, as availability is very regional and changes depending on which bit of the country you’re in. We’re expecting more stock next week at the earliest.

Amazon could restock the PS5 on 12 August
We deal with a lot of speculation and rumour on this liveblog, so it’s rare to have a firm PS5 restock date for a major retailer.
But yesterday, Amazon UK inadvertently tipped its hand and told us when the PS5 would next be in stock: Thursday, 12 August.
This could change, especially if Amazon realises its error and moves its restock dates to avoid being swarmed by console-hungry shoppers.
Whatever happens, make sure to add the console to your Save for Later list when it next drops.
