The new model of PS5, the codenamed CFI-1202, is cheaper to produce: Various components require a lot of money and it saves money. So, how did the company deal with the price increase a few weeks ago? Okay, right. That’s a rhetorical question.
Having a few hours to say, the new PS5 model uses a 6 nm SoC that implies a number of improvements both in terms of the size of the die and the efficiency of the console and consequently the characteristics of the system.
It’s easier to make and build new components. This is a possible improvement in production, and therefore the ability to make the new PlayStation 5s to the store, thus trying to make the problems that were related to the stocks that led to them less costly.
In short, wherever you look at this new PS5, it’s a conquest for everybody, except those of the European, Japan, and Australian, who are just doing the opposite and pay more for the purchase of the console. This is a strategy that nobody had ever implemented before, and which is an astonishingly complex situation because of these developments.
If you look at the tweet, the journalist Jeff Grubb wanted to joke about it: It is less expensive to produce. Yield for a single wafer. The dissipation system is more efficient, thus less money is spent. All the savings for your benefit, do not wait, what were you talking about?
While at this point it remains to be assured that effective savings on PlayStation 5 production costs will convince Sony to turn around on the price increase, then the limited availability costs will increase the price. A choice that Jim Ryan could clearly sell following what has been advertised for a lot of times as the PlayStation philosophy: for the players.
What do you think about it? Let’s talk about it.
