Five years after Cuphead was first released on XBOX One, Studio MDHR’s challenging run-and-gun platformer is finally getting a physical release. Cuphead’s recognizable art style, based on classic 1930s American animation, returned in June 2022’s DLC The Delicious Last Course with this much-anticipated DLC introducing a new playable character and gallery of hard-as-nails boss battles.
Cuphead will release both a Standard Edition and a Collector’s Edition, both of which will provide players with “the most complete Cuphead experience ever”. The Standard Edition contains the main Cuphead game, The Delicious Last Course expansion, six “Collectible Cuphead Funnies Cards” (small, one-frame comics), a “Cuphead Club Membership Card” and exclusive interior art by Studio MDHR.
The Collector’s Edition, made by video game collectibles site iam8bit, costs $199.99 and is packed full of items that are sure to delight fans. As well as everything already listed in the Standard Edition, the Collector’s Edition also contains a small hand-cranked music box and a foldout “cartographer-illustrated map of the Inkwell Isles”. The main attraction of the Collector’s Edition is the impressive, fully-puppetable, 8″ hand-crafted Cuphead marionette created by Prague’s Rici Marionettes.
iam8bit has also partnered with Studio MDHR to release two vinyl records starring the voice and music of Canadian jazz composer Kristofer Maddigan, whose audio art plays an important role in creating Cuphead‘s vintage aesthetic. iam8bit’s Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course 2xLP contains 2xLP 180g Black Vinyl; 3 MDHR family recipes; a digital copy to download; and a poster by cartoonist Shawn Dickinson and their Cuphead 2xLP Vinyl Soundtrack contains 2xLP in 1930s style packaging; a digital copy to download; and previously unreleased solos again by Kristofer Maddigan
Cuphead Standard Edition releases on 6th December 2022 and the Collector’s Edition in Q1 2023. Both editions and the two vinyl records are available to preorder from iam8bit.
