Release date revealed for Roller Champions – Thumbsticks

Roller Champions, Ubisoft’s free-to-play roller derby game, releases next week.

There’s an argument that Ubisoft has been throwing multiplayer games at the wall to see what sticks recently. From its various Tom Clancy franchises to the recently-shuttered Hyper Scape, its multiplayer shooters are not doing brilliantly. (Apart from the ever-popular Rainbow Six Siege, obviously.)

Where it has arguably been doing better are its multiplayer sports sims, like Riders Republic, the sort-of sequel to Ubisoft’s best-ever game, Steep.

And the next Ubisoft multiplayer game to give it a go – Roller Champions – is, thankfully, a sports game and not a shooter. A roller derby game, to be precise. (So it’s still fairly violent.)

If you’re not familiar with roller derby, you should definitely go and watch 2009’s Whip It as a gentle introduction – it’s a bit like Dodgeball, but for girls on roller skates beating seven bells out of each other. Then, when you’ve done that, check out your local roller derby leagues, because they’re really flipping cool.

Caught up? Good. And just in time, too: Roller Champions, Ubisoft’s multiplayer take on roller derby, launches on May 25, 2022.

Roller Champions will be free-to-play, and will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at launch. (With Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna launches for Roller Champions around the corner, presumably if the game does better than it’s shooty stablemates.)
