It’s been a long wait, but the turn-based Yakuza: Like a Dragon will finally make its move on PlayStation 5 this week. The game launched on the PlayStation 4 – and various other platforms – last year, but was delayed on Sony’s next-gen console, presumably due to marketing arrangements. Fortunately, those deals have now elapsed, and the title will finally throw a punch at PS5 from 2nd March.
There’ll be a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade for existing owners of the title, but unfortunately there’s no save transfer functionality, so you’ll need to start over if you did already begin the game on Sony’s last-gen console. The release runs at 60 frames-per-second in 4K on the PS5, so you can expect clean image quality and smooth performance across the board.
We really liked the RPG in our PS4 review, describing it as “crazy but captivating”: “At its core, this is still the Yakuza that we know and love, with shocking story beats and fantastic characters, but in embracing the structure of an old school RPG, it successfully branches the series off in a whole new direction.”
Will you be picking up Yakuza: Like a Dragon this week? Have you been waiting for the PS5 version before getting started, or did you already play through the game last year? Party up in the comments section below.
