HARTFORD APPLE FEST: The 58th annual Hartford Apple Festival will be Friday to Sept. 18 at the township center, state Routes 7 and 305. Rides, games and food will be offered. Events include a queen contest Friday, parade at 6 p.m. Saturday and 5K race and car show 9 a.m. Sept. 18. There will be different contests for arts and food items at the Hartford firehall. Judging will be done for crafts, produce, baked goods, arts, Lego creation and children’s coloring.
HOWLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Howland Historical Society will host speaker Sean Posey 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Howland Township administration building. Posey, who is a photographer and historian, will speak on “The Hidden History of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.” Posey will talk about his latest book in which he tells stories of little known or lost history that he uncovered while in the process of researching the 1918 flu pandemic.
KINSMAN HOUSE CELEBRATION: The Warren Heritage Center will celebrate the 190th anniversary of the Kinsman House with a gala from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the house property off Mahoning Avenue, Warren. The event will include live entertainment, a basket raffle and wine tasting, as well as the second installment “Meet the Kinsmans.” The gala will feature the wedding reception of Olive and Frederick Kinsman. McKINLEY’S LIFE AND TIMES: The McKinley Memorial Library will host “Celebrate McKinley’s Life and Times” noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Participants will take part in McKinley-related crafts, games and activities at the McKinley Birthplace Home, 40 S. Main St., Niles, and National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum, 40 N. Main St.
BUDDY WALK: The Down Syndrome Association of the Valley will host the 15th annual Buddy Walk of eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania 1 p.m. Sept. 18 at Eastwood Field in Niles. Gates open at noon. The Buddy Walk is the association’s main fundraiser. The walk celebrates abilities and promotes acceptance. Proceeds from the event will benefit programs and services provided by the DSAV. OHIO OPEN DOOR: The Ohio History Connection and Open Doors will host a “Behind the Scenes Look at Small Town Ohio History” 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Mantua Town Hall, 4122 state Route 82, Mantua.The program will include how objects are safely stored and identified through a grant. There will be music by Moonshadow 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Visitors will be able to walk through the Mantua Center Historic District.
ONENESS BLESSING: The Unity Spiritual Centre, 1225 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will host a oneness blessing 12:30 p.m. today. The oneness blessing is a hands-on benediction that brings about changes in energy of the brain. The blessing will be by Paul Christian, who also will be the speaker at 11 a.m. worship service.
SCIENCE DAY: Corner House Christian Church in Hubbard Township will host Professor Seven’s Amazing Science Day 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The free event will include interaction activities involving science with different shows during the day. There also will be food, games and activities. The program also will be offered at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Brookfield Library.
DANCE EVENT: USA Dance with guest DJ John Siefkin and lessons sponsored by Bob McPhail will be today at Avon Oaks Ballroom. A basics lesson begins at 5 p.m. and a second lesson at 5:30 p.m. will be more advanced. General dancing to a full variety of genres will be until 9 p.m. Cost is $10 for USA dance members, $15 for non-members and $3 for high school and college students. Dances are open to the public.
