S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Has No PS5 Plans for Now

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 may have one of the most obnoxious names to type of all time, but a lot of people are looking forward to the first-person sequel. Announced for PC and Xbox Series X|S – this one, allegedly, can’t run on last-gen systems like the PlayStation 4 – many have been pondering whether the title will also release on the PS5. The answer is – well, it’s complicated.

Speaking with Gaming Bolt, developer GSC World said that there are “no plans for now”. It went on to explain that it “negotiated the possibilities with Microsoft and saw several good opportunities for the brand” thus it’s “concentrating on the Xbox Series X|S version”. Translation: this is a timed exclusive that will release on PS5 anywhere from six to 12 months after its initial launch.

In the meantime, a bunch of ex-S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developers are working on Chernobylite, which has a similar vibe and is coming to PS5 later this year. It’s a shame about the timed exclusive stuff, but Sony signs these kinds of deals all the time, and as long as the game eventually comes out on the next-gen PlayStation then all’s well that ends well.
