Gaming mental health charity Safe In Our World is celebrating its third birthday today (which is also World Mental Health Day, and that’s no coincidence). To mark this auspicious occasion, Safe In Our World is introducing a brand new Ambassador Program, which we here at TechRaptor are proud to sponsor, as well as a streaming event to help you relax and unwind.
Safe In Our World was originally launched back in 2019 with a mission to raise awareness of mental health issues in gaming. Each year, the charity introduces new initiatives and programs to celebrate its birthday, and this year is no different. In 2022, it’s all about the Ambassador Program, which is inviting content creators and gamers to become Safe In Our World Ambassadors.
Ambassadors get dedicated spaces on the charity’s website and in its Discord server, as well as priority for news and upcoming initiatives and the chance to represent Safe In Our World alongside fellow creators, developers, and other gaming companies. Each year, a new “class” of Ambassadors will be chosen, and there are goodies for you if you’re chosen as part of the Class as well.
Here’s what you could stand to get if you’re chosen as an Ambassador for Safe In Our World.
- A T-shirt and goodie bag
- An Ambassador profile
- An exclusive section in the Safe In Our World Discord
- Priority receipt of news and initiatives
- Opportunities to feature in Safe In Our World articles
- Opportunities for charity representation
You can apply to become an Ambassador right here. Applications close on November 20th, so make sure to get yours in before then if you want to get involved. Here’s what TechRaptor’s very own CEO Rutledge has to say about Safe In Our World and its Mental Health program.
It’s going to be a class of 25-30 people, who want to actively help grow Safe In Our World and mental health awareness, regardless of current platform size. It’ll be an annual thing going forward, so if you’re a champion of mental health and want to help promote Safe In Our World and mental wellness online and at events, this is a great opportunity to do so.
As well as the Ambassador Program, Safe In Our World is also holding a fundraising event this coming weekend. Press Pause will be available via Tiltify, where you’ll be able to watch a series of YouTube and Twitch streams between October 14th and October 16th (that’s Friday through Sunday). Safe In Our World describes this event as a “safe, relaxing, and healthy space” for gaming fans to process their emotions and ditch their stress. It’s also an opportunity to fundraise, so if you’re inclined to help out, do be generous.
Why the work of Safe In Our World is important
Gaming should be a safe and inclusive space for everyone, but that’s just not the case right now. The UK’s Mental Health Foundation found earlier this year that while gaming is helpful for people’s mental health, companies should be doing more to help gamers, including battling toxicity (a serious problem for female gamers in particular) and raising awareness.
Charities like Safe In Our World are doing great work by raising awareness of mental health in gaming, not just within the community but for developers and publishers as well. With the issue of crunch culture still looming large over the world of game development, the mental health of development staff also needs to be prioritized.
If you want to learn more about Safe In Our World’s Ambassador Program, you can do so right here. Be sure to check out the Tiltify page for Press Pause this Friday as well, where you’ll find streams from lots of content creators and gamers looking to help you unwind and relax.
