Save Me, Mr. Tako: Definitive Edition Launches This Week

A second lease on life after being delisted from the eShop.

Save Me, Mr. Tako! is an indie game that launched back in on Nintendo Switch. Developed by Christophe Galati, Mr. Tako is a love letter to the Game Boy era of gaming, right down to its soupy green color palette. Unfortunately, Galati and publisher Nicalis ultimately parted ways after working together to bring the title to Switch. In November of 2020, Mr. Tako was delisted from the eShop, with a joint statement from Galati and Nicalis that read as follows:

After working together to develop Save me Mr. Tako: Tasukete Tako-San for Nintendo Switch and PC, it’s time for Nicalis and Deneos to go their separate ways. Though our professional relationship has ended, it’s been an honor for the team at Nicalis to mentor and assist Christophe with his first commercial release, and Christophe is extremely grateful to the Nicalis team for being an instrumental part of the game’s story and success. And to you, the players: Thanks for helping to save Mr. Tako!

Now, after some rigorous re-tinkering and retrofitting, the game has been updated and ready to rerelease as Save Me, Mr. Tako: Definitive Edition. You can take a look here:

The game will launch on May 5 in the eShop, with Limited Run Games set to release a physical edition at some point. If you’d like to know the details about Definitive Edition, Galati put together this handy piece over on Patreon. A platform in adventure game, the nominal Tako solves puzzles, shoots ink, and uses a variety of hats to save the day. Galati has poured a lot of heart and soul into this remaster; even fans who played the original will likely want to take a look and see all of the quality of life improvements that have been made.
