ELKINS — Elkins remains on the road seeking its first victory of the season, while homecoming will be celebrated at Buckhannon-Upshur, Philip Barbour and Tucker County in Week 6 of the high school football this season this evening.

The Tigers (0-4) were originally set to play their first game at the EHS field against Grafton but the contest was shifted to Taylor County due to the new stadium not yet ready for use.

Elkins is coming off a 47-20 setback at Philip Barbour last Friday. The Tigers are led in rushing by freshman Nick Bowers, who has accumulated 180 yards and scored two TDS, and senior Javier Rosario (176 yards).

Todd Vandevender directs the offense from the quarterback spot and also leads the squad with 34 tackles. Lane Blake has collected four receptions for 62 yards.

The Bearcats (2-2) counter with quarterback Tanner Moats, who threw for 159 yards and rushed for an additional 68 in last week’s 41-34 victory over Liberty. Moats had three rushing TDs and threw for two more.

In other action tonight, B-U entertains John Marshall, Philip Barbour hosts Petersburg, Tygarts Valley battles Richwood at Bulldog Field and Pendleton County visits Tucker County.

All games start at 7 p.m., with the exception of the John Marshall-B-U game at 7:30 p.m.

The Bucs (1-2) will be playing their first home game of the season at Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Stadium.

Running back Savion Farmer leads the B-U attack.

The Monarchs enter the game with a 3-2 mark, losing a 28-25 decision at Parkersburg South in their last outing.

After halting a 22-game losing skid in last week’s win over Elkins, the Colts (1-2) look to reach the .500 mark against the Vikings (1-3) at George Byrer Field at BC Bank Park.

Junior DeShawn Webster had four touchdowns in the win over the Tigers.

In Mill Creek, Tygarts Valley looks to bounce back from last Friday night’s 36-30 OT setback to Clay-Battelle.

Sophomore Nate Hulver had 176-yards rushing and two scores in the loss, and senior Garrett Gibson added 97 yards on the ground and scored on the ground and on a 54-yard pass from Lucas Bright.

Tucker County, meanwhile, returns home for the first time in nearly a month when Pendleton County visits R.H. Armstrong Memorial Field at Class of 1984 Alumni Stadium.

The Mountain Lions (1-2) had their best offensive output of the season in a tough 31-28 loss at Berkeley Springs a week ago. Sophomore quarterback Ethan Roseneu threw for 152 yards and one score, while Trenton Wilfong had six catches for 68 yards and returned a kickoff 58-yards for a touchdown.
