Konami finally announces the Silent Hill 2 remake, confirming its development studio as well as its PS5 console exclusivity status.
After years of rumors and speculation, Konami has officially announced the Silent Hill 2 remake, confirming the studio behind the project as well as the fact that the game will be a PlayStation 5 console exclusive. Konami kicked off its Silent Hill event with the blockbuster announcement, showcasing footage of the Silent Hill 2 remake while also providing insight from the developers on what the project will entail.
The Silent Hill 2 remake is being developed by Bloober Team, the studio best known for games like Layers of Fear and The Medium. The Medium itself had a lot in common with classic Silent Hill games, so it seems like the Silent Hill 2 remake is likely in good hands. Original artist Masahiro Ito and original composer Akira Yamaoka are also involved in the game’s development. For the most part, it looks like the Silent Hill 2 remake will be faithful to the original game, but with updated graphics and important changes to help it meet modern standards, like switching to an over-the-shoulder camera and using motion capture for the animations.
The Silent Hill 2 remake trailer shows protagonist James Sunderland exploring the creepy town of Silent Hill. Silent Hill fans also get a glimpse at what some of the game’s iconic creatures look like with updated visuals, like the creepy nurses and of course, Pyramid Head. No release date was given, but fans can expect the Silent Hill 2 remake to be the first release in Konami’s attempt to revitalize the long-dormant horror franchise.
Those that have been following the Silent Hill 2 leaks and rumors will be unsurprised by much of this information. It’s long been rumored that Akira Yamaoka was composing music for a Silent Hill 2 remake, and that the game was in development by Bloober Team. It seems not all of the leaked info was correct, though. For example, it was leaked that the Silent Hill 2 remake will be an episodic game, and while that certainly could still be the case, it wasn’t announced during the event.
It was also leaked a while ago that the Silent Hill 2 remake would be a PS5 console exclusive, so there’s no surprise there, but some gamers on other platforms may still be disappointed regardless. In any case, there’s still a lot left to be revealed about the Silent Hill 2 remake, like when fans will actually get to play the game for themselves, so hopefully they don’t have to wait too much longer for more info.
Silent Hill 2 is in development for PC and PS5.
