Sony Has Stopped Reporting PS4 Shipments

Sony has always had the honor of having the highest selling console of all time. The critically acclaimed PS 2 not only garnered some of the greatest games of all time, but also sold over 155 million consoles worldwide. This is an impressive feat that no other console has ever beaten, but some have came close.

The PS 2 is not the only product that brought Sony fame and glory. The PlayStation 4 was also a behemoth when it came to games and sales reports, selling over 117 million consoles sold worldwide, But it seems that this report is finally coming to a strict close.

It seems that Sony has stopped all reports for their PlayStation 4 sales as of march 2022. This would suggest that Sony has decided to focus solely on the new PlayStation 5 and nurture the console as much as they can. Considering the shortages are still fervent, they would need to up their game immensely.

Of course the sales reports may have stopped, but Sony’s competitors are most probably not going to stop. A very specific example is the Nintendo Switch, which is currently at 111 million sold consoles and it should surpass the PS 4 by the end of the year.

Sony also never reported the final sales report for the PS Vita, this could be due to the sales not being as impressive as some of the other consoles produced by Sony. This could also explain why Sony stopped reporting PS 4 sales.

In the last year, the PS 4 was at its lowest sales ever. Reaching as low as 0.1 Million units sold. This  tells us that the declining sales showed Sony that it was finally time to move past the old era and embrace the next generation of gaming. What do you think about Sony’s decision?
