Sony’s Cory Barlog Pleads for Patience As God of War Ragnarok Anticipation Hits Fever Pitch

Update: Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has now weighed in on the speculation of a God of War Ragnarok release date announcement being close, suggesting Barlog’s tweet earlier today means the news is no longer planned to break tomorrow.

While this was the original plan “as of very recently”, it may no longer be happening. However, Schreier doesn’t believe the game has been delayed out of 2022 as far as he knows.

Original article: With the new PS Plus now out all around the world, and its many questions finally answered, it feels like the PlayStation fanbase has collectively turned its attention to the next big mystery: God of War Ragnarok. This game has been a bit “will they, won’t they” for a while, with various rumours emerging about a delay – only to get debunked.

Flawless rumourmonger The Snitch appeared to riddle last week that an announcement could be made on 30th June, which corroborated what other reliable journalists had claimed. But there’s been no confirmation of a State of Play as expected, meaning at this stage any potential announcements could be relegated to a mere PS Blog post. That doesn’t feel quite right for such a prestigious sequel.

Still, with July around the corner, it is beginning to feel like developer Sony Santa Monica is running out of time. And it’s prompted the previous entry’s director Cory Barlog to plead for patience on social media:

We’re still expecting something to be posted on the PS Blog tomorrow, but whether it’ll be a release date, trailer, or a delay is anyone’s guess. Similarly, we wouldn’t be particularly shocked if Thursday came and went with no news at all. PlayStation is borderline impossible to predict these days to be honest: we obsessively follow this stuff for a living and the company still keeps us on our toes.
