A new Call of Duty game would traditionally have really strong sales in the second month of its release. Despite this, the latest PlayStation Store downloads chart shows that Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a launch title for the PS5 console, beat Call of Duty: Vanguard for sales in the US during December. Still, both titles were beaten to the top spot of the charts in both the US/Canada and Europe by another juggernaut.
What was the best selling PS5 game in December?
Among Us was the best selling PS5 title in both Europe and the US/Canada. It was then followed by Spider-Man: Miles Morales in second spot and Call of Duty: Vanguard in third in the US/Canada. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is likely to have benefitted from the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home in theaters across the world, although its triumph over Vanguard is quite an achievement for a game that’s 13 months old. In Europe, FIFA 22 took second spot while Call of Duty: Vanguard grabbed third spot. Miles Morales came in fourth in Europe. The only other new December release to hit the charts was Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, which reached #4 in US/Canada and #7 in Europe.
The top selling PS4 game was also Among Us. Call of Duty: Vanguard reached #2 in US/Canada and #3 in Europe, again being beaten by FIFA 22 in the latter region. It’s worth noting that the total Vanguard monthly sales across all platforms are almost certainly greater than those of Miles Morales seeing as this game featured in lower positions in the PS4 chart. Meanwhile, Beat Saber continues to top the PSVR chart in both regions, while Fortnite similarly tops the free-to-play downloads chart. The full charts can be found on the PlayStation Blog.
In other news, the Twisted Metal reboot seems to have suffered a setback after the developer was changed late last year. Elsewhere, the Nova Pink and Starlight Blue DualSense controllers are now available for pre-order at certain retailers before their release later this month.
