Steam and Epic cross platform multiplayer guide

Borderlands 3 is the first Mystery Game of May 2022 and the good news is that it is crossplay with cross platform multiplayer between Steam and Epic Games.

The Epic Mega sale has begun and there’s a bevy of fantastic discounts for players to take advantage. These include discounts for BL spin-off Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, as well as other fantastic titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, Disco Elysium, and many more.

However, the biggest prize is undoubtedly this week’s freebie which supports online gameplay between different systems.

Is Borderlands 3 crossplay?

Borderlands 3 is crossplay with cross platform multiplayer between Epic Games, Steam, and Xbox consoles.

Cross platform multiplayer support for BL3 was added back in 2019. Unfortunately, PS4 and PS5 are not included as of writing.

Gearbox has confirmed that PS4 and PS5 versions of the game will receive crossplay in spring 2022. However, there is still no exact date.

Just so you know, BL3 is only free on the Epic Games store until 16:00 BST on May 26th. It will then be replaced by another giveaway that is currently a secret.

How to play BL3 cross platform multiplayer

You need to set a crossplay display name before you can enjoy cross platform multiplayer in Borderlands 3.

The game’s website says that you will be greeted by an opt-in window to create said display name. However, if you do not find this window, you can create or change your display name in your SHiFT account page.

Below are the requirements for creating a display name:

• Has to be a unique name not already in use by another Borderlands 3 player
• Must be between 3-16 characters long
• Must start with a letter, and is limited to a-z, A-Z, 0-9, or non-consecutive underscore, hyphen, or period/full-stop characters
