Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 27th)

Welcome to the weekend! We’re spoilt for choice with what to play on Xbox (once again) over the next few days, with five new Xbox Game Pass titles to check out, some amazing Free Play Days selections along with a free trial weekend for Watch Dogs: Legion, and another fantastic sale full of loads of great titles.

Here’s what we’re jumping into over the weekend:

Well, I’ll let the cat out of the bag – I’m reviewing It Takes Two for Pure Xbox this weekend. We unfortunately didn’t get access to it until later than planned, but we’ll nevertheless have our verdict on it shortly for you, and the reviews we have seen so far have been very complimentary. My fiancée and I haven’t had a chance to play too much of it yet, but we’re very encouraged by what we’ve played so far.

The rest of my weekend will be taken up by upgraded Xbox Series X titles for the most part. I’m finally enjoying Marvel’s Avengers now that it loads super quickly and looks absolutely stunning on the next-gen system, and while the $10 digital upgrade fee for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 is perplexing to say the least, there’s no doubt that it’s another very good Xbox Series X upgrade (when it works), and it’s particularly good at 120FPS.

That’s about it for me, although I did go for a bizarre impulse buy earlier this week in the form of Active Soccer 2019. Don’t ask me why – I just wanted a modernised Sensible Soccer type game packed with over 1000 teams and a lengthy career mode – and while it’s pretty buggy, it’s actually a lot of fun. No regrets here!

Have a good weekend, folks!

After weeks and weeks, I am wrapping up Assassin’s Creed Valhalla this weekend. It’s taken me upwards of 130 hours, but I’ve enjoyed every second of it. Many have said it’s too long. I say it’s not long enough, and I could have easily kept going for another hundred odd hours. Either way, it’s without a doubt my favourite entry in the series and I’m excited to see where it leads.

So what will I be moving onto? Well, I have two new releases to dive into. First off is It Takes Two, which me and my fiancée will be devouring this weekend. A Way Out was a great game to play together during lockdown, so the reviews for this have me feeling fairly confident. Additionally, I’m going to give Balan Wonderworld a go. Yes, I know – the demo wasn’t great, but everyone deserves a second chance and I’m keen to see if they really did make the changes they’ve promised. We’ll find out soon enough.

Have a nice, chilled weekend, everyone!

Hello. This weekend I’m going to be spending as much of my limited free time as I possibly can with Feral Cat Den’s properly magical Genesis Noir, which has just jazz-danced its way onto Xbox Game Pass. I threw this one on for a quick look yesterday after hearing a few good reports on Twitter and was instantly and utterly hooked, it really is like no other point and click game I’ve ever experienced and, without spoiling anything, I highly recommend you jump in for a look.

Any other free time I possibly manage to eek out over the next few days will be given over to DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods – Part 2, the final slice of DLC for one of my absolute favourite shooters of recent years. Here’s hoping this farewell episode can manage to rise to the all-out insanity of its predecessor, an add-on that took everything about the core campaign’s combat experience and turned it right up to 11.

Have fun whatever you’re doing or playing over the weekend and stay safe out there!
