Terraria’s Next Update is Coming Out Soon

Terraria is about to receive its next major content update, one that’s possibly going to be the game’s true final outing, before developer Re-Logic considers it complete. A truly timeless release, Terraria has had half a dozen “final” content updates over the years, only for Re-Logic to jump back onto the game and produce something fresh and new for the fans to play.

Th upcoming “Labor of Love” update won’t be quite as substantial as some of these previous updates, but some of its features have been requested for quite a long while now, such as the ability to quickly switch gear loadouts, for example. Known as update 1.4.4, it is set to launch on September 28 across all the platforms Terraria is available on, and its primary focus seems to be the deployment of various quality-of-life improvements, though some new enemies and pets have also been mentioned.

The existence of an all-new content update isn’t overly surprising, considering the fact that Terraria passed an incredible Steam milestone earlier this year. Terraria is now seemingly the most positively reviewed game on Steam, bar none, and it seems that Re-Logic had another list of additions and improvements in mind for its loyal player base. To that end, players can expect new achievements, enemies, cosmetic items, gadgets, and more. A particularly interesting highlight is the so-called Rubblemaker tool, which allows players to set up ambient objects such as grassy knolls, stalagmites, and more.

These additions are bound to drive home the fact that Terraria is impossible to beat without a guide, but it doesn’t seem likely that Re-Logic could ever conceivably condense its progression systems and features into a manageable tutorial at this point. That said, the addition of a proper “autofire” setting, numeric value displays for health and mana bars, loadouts, and other improvements coming with 1.4.4 should make the whole thing more appealing at a glance.

For many, Terraria is easily one of the most replayable survival games on the market. There’s a wealth of content available for every player profile, and since the game doesn’t take itself very seriously, it’s easy to kick back and enjoy the experience every step of the way. A notable caveat is, of course, that it’s highly likely that the release of 1.4.4 will break the majority of available mods for Terraria, so players may wish to wait until these are all patched up before jumping into the game.

It’s worth pointing out that the Labor of Love update isn’t likely to change how Terraria‘s endgame classes work. This means that players who had seen it all, and who might have had enough of the gameplay loop aren’t necessarily going to be drawn in by 1.4.4’s respective novelties. Still, it won’t take long until everyone can see for themselves what Re-Logic’s been working on in the background, and it’s not impossible that there are a few surprises waiting.

Terraria is available on 3DS, Mobile, PC, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
