Gaming culture is saturating the mainstream now more than ever — yes, even more than when “Pac-Man Fever” hit the Billboard charts in 1982. Last year, Apple TV’s critically acclaimed Mythic Quest invited viewers into the world of game development. Celebrities like Chris Gethard, Robby Hoffman and Martin Urbano turned to the gaming platform Twitch as an alternative to live comedy shows during quarantine, helping to bring more attention to the live-streaming platform. And the pandemic helped many of us — who may have fallen off from gaming sometime between Frogger and Fortnite — rediscover that love.
In the last year, sales surged for the Nintendo Switch, as homebound gamers explored the virtual world of Animal Crossing, and the launch of next-gen gaming systems like Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X and Series S led to retailers selling out in minutes.
All this to say that now, with everyone and their grandmother (literally) gaming, you might think there’s little need for sales to incentivize anyone to buy games. Yet, with Labor Day weekend upon us, you can still find great deals on great games, and even some extremely hard-to-find systems too.
We’ve scoured the internet for the best gaming deals this Labor Day for Xbox, Playstation, Switch, PC and more. Think of us as your Professor Oak, or the man in the cave from The Legend of Zelda, and this is your map. Now it’s up to you to put your skills to the test — and see if you’re quick enough to score some of these hot titles and next-gen systems before they’re all gone.

Your eyes aren’t tricking you. QVC is currently in possession of the consistently sold out Xbox Series X, the latest gaming system from Microsoft, able to play both digital and disc-based games. More remarkable still, it’s offering this system as part of a bundle, including Madden 21, a Nyko gaming headset and Nyko dual charging dock, and even a Mighty Skins voucher for customizable console and controller skins.
On top of that, QVC is offering up this bundle for $100 off the original price. Finding such an in-demand new console is rare enough these days, but being able to find one at a discount? Well, to put it in Madden terms, that has about the same odds as the “helmet catch” from Super Bowl XLII. These guys are obviously going fast, so if you’ve been meaning to upgrade your gaming to the next-gen, now’s your chance.

Assassin’s Creed is beloved by gamers for its immersive historical settings. The newest installment, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, provided a perfect showcase of the graphical power of the Playstation 5, bringing the world of vikings to vivid life with detailed images, lifelike hair and fur physics, and a rich soundscape worthy of the Nordic warriors. If you’re one of the lucky players to have gotten your hands on a PS5, this is a game you can’t pass up, especially since Amazon is offering this $60 title for just $25. That’s over 50 percent off for one of the most acclaimed games of this console generation!
“This game brings the old mechanics back from the games of the ‘prime years of Assassins Creed’ and puts it into an open world with good stealth,” one five-star reviewer said. “The game is everything Assassin’s Creed is supposed to be…and that’s coming from someone who loved Origins and Odyssey.”

After some stumbles in recent years, Nintendo might be on its way to ruling the world once more. A new Super Mario Bros. movie is in development, a Nintendo-themed land has opened in Universal Studios Japan theme park and the Nintendo Switch became a global sensation during the pandemic, with retailers unable to keep the console in stock.
If you’re one of those who haven’t yet brought a Nintendo Switch into your home, the dual purpose console is available right now from QVC in a bundle that includes Mario Kart 8, a carrying case for when you want to take the switch on the go and even a screen protector looking like new through even the most difficult races. This bundle normally retails for $630, but this Labor Day QVC is dropping the price down more than $100. So don’t miss out on your chance to get in the game with Nintendo’s most beloved console in decades.
