The final chapter in The Binding of Isaac saga is almost here, and it’s getting a physical release on Switch. The horror roguelike takes inspiration from the biblical story in which Abraham is asked by God to sacrifice his son, Isaac, with the mother of similarly-named Isaac attempting to sacrifice him as a symbol of her faith. Isaac escapes into the monster-filled basement, and thus the game begins, with the sobbing Isaac taking on hordes of biblical-themed demons in a Zelda-like dungeon.
The Binding of Isaac: Repentance will add two new playable characters, 130+ new items, 100+ new enemies, 25+ new bosses, and a new alternate path with new chapters, a new final boss, and a new ending. That’s a lot of news!
Alongside all the extra items and bosses, Repentance will also add graphical improvements, gameplay updates, and changes to the game’s balance. Creator Edmund McMillen called it the “best version of Isaac”.
The game has no official release date, instead getting a release window of “Q3 2021” – that’s sometime between July and September – although the PC version will come out on Steam on the 31st March. However, there will be no complete list of the game’s features, since the developers want to “maximize player enjoyment and preserve the element of surprise as much as possible.”
