Remember when August was a quiet month for gaming? The summer holidays were a time to go outside, kick the football into your neighbours’ garden countless times and then you could get an ice cream for just 50p. Now though, August is as busy as all the other months; just this month we have had Psychonauts 2, Twelve Minutes, Hades and Lawn Mowing Simulator to name but a few.
And with releases aplenty, you can expect some easy Gamerscore! Thankfully we are here to point you towards the easy achievements yet again for the games released on Xbox during the month of August.
Hades – 5G – Three-Headed Boy
And let’s start with one of the big releases from the last month, the fantastic Hades, or as I like to call it, the roguelike for people who don’t like roguelikes.
In Hades you will die. A lot. Which is just as well then that this achievement needs to be done when you return to your father after dying. You can see him there, looking all smug behind his desk, but to his right and your left is Cerberus, the three-headed dog.
As well as being able to talk to him and offer him nectar as a gift, you can pet Cerberus. On one of his three heads at least. Do this ten times and you have an extra 5G. Word of warning though if playing on Xbox Series X|S with Quick Resume on; Hades is having trouble popping achievements when you load in with Quick Resume. Shut the game down fully and it should pop when you restart.
art of rally – 30G – if in doubt, flat out!
Another game that is available to download right now for Xbox Game Pass subscribers is the gorgeous looking art of rally. But not only is it stunning to look at, it’s also a very good driving game that is littered with easy achievements.
The one we are focussing on though is one that initially may seem a bit trickier.
Start any level and if you can tear yourself away from the visuals for a minute then you’ll want to find yourself an object that won’t break or move when you drive into it. This can be a wall or a fence, but not a person. Nudge yourself into the immovable object and then floor it using the right trigger for 60 seconds. You will know when your 60 seconds have elapsed as you will have an extra 30G to your Gamerscore.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite – 15G – Fashion Team
When hunting Xenomorphs, the last thing you’re probably thinking about is how you look whilst you’re shooting them. But when customising your look comes with an achievement in Aliens: Fireteam Elite, you’d be forgiven for having a quick outfit change mid firefight.
You will unlock various outfits and accessories during the missions in Aliens: Fireteam Elite but you don’t need to unlock anything specific here. Head straight into the menus and the inventory tab where you should have a few options already. Simply change up your headwear and outfit for a quick and easy 15G.
Sam & Max Save the World – 80G – More Than Jerks
Our second achievement featuring a dog this month is the remaster of Sam & Max Save the World that has arrived on Xbox consoles. This achievement may require a little bit of playing, but at 80G is still well worth the limited effort.
During episode one you can head to Bosco’s convenience store and approach a character known as Whizzer. Annoy the hell out of him by asking him to sing the Soda Poppers song. Initially he will decline but you can wear him down by asking six more times and he will finally relent. After he sings his song, the achievement will pop for a substantial 80G.
I Am Dead – 20G – Woof!
You can probably tell from the name of this next achievement that it is another dog-related one. Plot twist incoming though, this dog is dead, probably indicated by the name of the game.
I Am Dead is a charming puzzle adventure despite the nature of the story. You play as Morris, who has recently deceased. Unsure what to do, he enlists the help of his also dead dog, Sparky, in the opening tutorial. Sparky explains what this dead duo needs to do to save the rest of their island community, but perhaps more importantly, after this initial re-introduction to each other, there is a 20G achievement waiting for you.
PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls – 4 for 80G – Pup Pup Boogie, Collect them all, Training Day and On the road
Is this another game featuring dogs? Yes it is, purely coincidental, but it has been rather a good month for games with easy achievements that feature dogs.
As well as being a game tie-in based on the recent film PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls – bit of a mouthful – there are also a few additional minigames with achievements associated to them. I haven’t played any of them, but I don’t expect them to be too taxing.
Launch any of the four: Pup Pup Boogie, Collect them all, Obstacle Race (for the Training Day cheevo) and Time Trial (for On The Road) and upon completion you will unlock a 20G achievement. Complete all four and that’s 80G in total, and there is also a 100G biggie if you achieve a gold medal on them all.
Cardaclysm: Shards of the Four – 2 for 22G – Ready for the Adventure and I Like This One
Our final game this month and I am 90% sure it is dog-free. Good news for all you cat lovers.
You are probably wondering where the obligatory ‘complete the tutorial’ achievement is this month and well, here it is. Albeit with a slight difference.
And apologies in advance but this doubler has an achievement worth 12G.
Cardaclysm: Shards of the Four is a collectible card game that mixes in some dungeon crawling, action RPG and exploration into the mix, which probably justifies why it has a tutorial to explain how it all works. Complete the tutorial for a simple 10G and Ready for the Adventure, but whilst doing so you will also unlock a 12G achievement called I Like This One. This one is for winning a battle with three identical cards in your deck, and since the deck you start with has three of the same in it, you will unlock this during the tutorial as well. But if odd achievement numbers put you off, be warned that you unlock this very early on in the game.
And that is our list of easy Xbox achievements in the month of August 2021. Traditionally, September is the start of the holiday season releases so will we see some big hitters in next month’s list? You’ll have to stay tuned to find out!
