The Gear.Club Unlimited series tops one million sales on Nintendo Switch – Thumbsticks

Microids has revealed that the Gear.Club Unlimited racing game franchise has reached one million units sold on Nintendo Switch.

The Gear.Club Unlimited series is an unlikely Nintendo Switch success story. The game was first released on mobile devices in 2016. With its microtransactions and in-game timers removed, the game arrived on Switch in 2017, where it was met by a healthy degree of scepticism. In our review, we said the game was solid, but its mobile roots were still evident.

Nonetheless, the game was very much welcome during a period in which the Switch was short of quality racers. Gear.Club Unlimited 2 followed in late 2018, offering a more polished racing experience that was met by a warmer critical response.

Publisher Microids and developer Eden Games have now revealed that more than one million units have been sold across the two games combined. Speaking about the milestone, Stéphane Longeard, CEO of Microids, says:

“The great results of the Gear.Club Unlimited franchise illustrates the strength of the brand and allows Microids to be confident in the future of the franchise. This new record consolidates our editorial strategy revolving around four pillars: Adventure, racing, retro and strong IPs.”

An enhanced version of the second game is also set for release in August. Gear.Club Unlimited 2 Tracks Edition adds a host of legendary cars, the world-famous Le Mans 24 track, and full simulation features, including pit stops, tires, and fuel management.
