Over the last year, a leak and subsequent report revealed the existence of an upcoming role-playing game, Avatar The Last Airbender: Quest for Balance, evidently coming to consoles in the very near future. After being seemingly removed from the internet, the game has surfaced yet again.
Online retailer Gamefly began displaying listings for Quest for Balance for PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch, selling at $49.99. It also confirms previous reports and listings, which suggested a release date of Nov. 8. The game has not been officially announced by Avatar Studios or GameMill, which were reported as the developers.
Information concerning the game originally surfaced on Amazon Japan, revealing the planned release date and its availability on PS4. The leak was later corroborated by Avatar News, which confirmed the existence of the game, along with major plot details. As an example, the art style is said to heavily resemble Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, though Quest For Balance will not be an open world game.
In addition, the game will take players through the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender, from Book One: Water to Book Three: Fire, told from the perspectives of Master Pakku, King Bumi and General Iroh, sharing stories with the members of the White Lotus in the game’s framing story. The game will thus provide players with alternate takes on the animated show’s events, as remembered by the White Lotus’ members.
It is uncertain when fans can expect to see marketing for Quest for Balance, or when the game will be officially announced. Earlier this year, it was reported Avatar Studios and an independent developer — now believed to be GameMill — were working on both an RPG and MMORPG. It is believed Quest for Balance is the former project.
The Avatar Franchise
This is on top of other games such as Avatar: Generations, a free-to-play mobile RPG currently enjoying a soft launch in Sweden, Denmark, South Africa and Canada. Only the first chapter of the game is currently available, telling a version of Book One: Water and providing players with access to Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Zuko in battles. It is currently unknown when the game will see its worldwide launch.
Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered in 2005 and ran for three seasons until 2007, after it concluded Avatar Aang’s story with the defeat of Firelord Ozai. The series was followed by a sequel series, The Legend of Korra, set 70 years after the events of the original show.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
