The Medium TV Show Announced By Bloober Team

If you played Bloober Team’s psychological horror game The Medium and found yourself thinking “so where’s that The Medium TV show?”, your prayers have been answered. Bloober Team has announced that it’s working on a TV adaptation of its spooky dual-world title alongside Polish animation company Platige Image.

In its announcement post (which is in Polish, so we’re using machine translation for it), Bloober Team says it’s currently in the process of developing a The Medium TV show alongside Platige, with no timeline for the show’s release just yet. It’ll be helmed by Bloober Team’s Piotr Babieno, as well as Tomasz Bagiński, an executive producer on Netflix’s The Witcher TV show (and an animator for several Witcher game cutscenes).

It remains to be seen how The Medium‘s dual-world concept will translate to the world of TV.

Babieno points to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which recently caused sales of Cyberpunk 2077 to skyrocket, and Arcane as evidence that this is “the perfect time” for a The Medium TV show (not to be confused with Medium, of course). Bagiński, for his part, says he’s glad to work alongside a “fantastically talented team” on the “exciting challenge” of this new show.

The agreement between Bloober and Platige Image says that the budget for the show “will be covered equally” by both studios. If parties “proceed to joint production” after development is complete, it’ll either be a co-production effort or a studio will be created specifically for the purposes of handling production. We’ll have to wait and see what happens from here.

Gaming and TV are becoming increasingly intertwined

This is the latest in a line of games being adapted into TV shows. Although movies based on games are still being made, gaming seems increasingly eager to pair up with TV, which makes sense; they’re both longer-form media, after all. A show based on The Last of Us is on its way, for instance, and adaptations of It Takes Two and System Shock are also apparently in development right now, as well as a movie based on Bloober Team’s own Layers of Fear. That’s to say nothing of the TV shows based on games that have already been successful, like the aforementioned Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Arcane, as well as Netflix’s excellent Castlevania show (which is getting a spinoff soon starring Richter Belmont).

The Medium also won’t be the first horror game to get adapted to either the big or the small screen. The Resident Evil series, for instance, has a storied history of adaptations; you’ve probably seen or heard of Paul W.S. Anderson’s movie series, but there was also the live-action Resident Evil show that debuted earlier this year on Netflix, albeit to somewhat middling reviews. We also can’t forget Infinite Darkness, an animated Resident Evil miniseries that aired in 2021. This process works the other way, too; recently, DreadXP announced a horror game based on the Shudder series Creepshow, and, of course, there’s Bloober Team’s take on the world of The Blair Witch Project.

Resident Evil is just one of many games to receive TV adaptations recently.

Naturally, we’ll bring you more on the TV adaptation of The Medium as we get it. In the meantime, if you’ve yet to check out the game, you can give it a look on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 right now.
