The Sims 4 Goes Free To Play Tomorrow

Live out your neighbourhood fantasies for free.

Good news for those who’ve always wanted to try out The Sims 4 but might not have got around to it. The game goes free to play from tomorrow, October 18, meaning that the base game is finally available to players on all platforms, with no purchase necessary.

There’s no doubt that The Sims is a franchise that’s beloved by a huge chunk of the gaming community. For many, the daily life simulator is synonymous with their earliest experiences of PC gaming. Since the days of the original The Sims games, the series has evolved with the different console generations of the times, but one thing has remained the same and that’s the franchise’s popularity. The latest iteration of the game, The Sims 4, was revealed to be going free-to-play last month, with the base game being put up for grabs to all users from tomorrow.

In addition, those who are current owners of the life-sim title can bag themselves a freebie in the form of The Sims 4 Desert Luxe Kit. However, they’ll only have the rest of today to do so, as it’ll no longer be available once the free-to-play update kicks in tomorrow.

While the base game will be free for all players on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC from tomorrow, any expansion packs and additional DLC for the game will still need to be purchased separately. With that said, there’s plenty of content to keep players busy in the base game, although expansions and add-ons for The Sims 4 are often considered an excellent way to expand your Sims’ horizons. Most recently, the game was given a high school-themed expansion pack, and prior to that, the inhabitants of The Sims 4 could experience life as a werewolf, in case their daily lives weren’t complicated enough.

To get started with The Sims 4 for free, all you’ll need to do is download the game from tomorrow on the platform of your choice. For PC users, this will be via the new EA app, Origin or Steam and for those on Xbox and PlayStation, from the respective stores. If you’ve been playing the game via EA Play or EA Play Pro, a special version of the game will be available to you. The Sims 4 EA Play Edition will be available to those subscribed to EA Play, which also includes The Sims 4 Get to Work expansion. Those on the EA Play Pro subscription plan can get a bit more bang for their buck, as they’ll be entitled to the EA Play Pro Edition of The Sims 4. This includes the aforementioned Get to Work expansion as well as The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff pack.

The Sims 4 is available now and will be free from tomorrow, October 18. Fans can also watch the Behind The Sims Summit, which is being streamed live tomorrow on YouTube and Twitch and will detail what’s coming next for the much-loved series. Check it out online at 10 AM PDT / 1 PM EDT / 6 PM BST/ 7 PM CEST.
