The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launched during a pandemic, with fierce competition for components making it hard to produce new systems. As such, new console demand is going to outstrip supply for a long time, and it might be a while before people can walk into a store and buy a new PS5 at retail price without having to jump through hoops.
