Tiger tennis dealt first defeat | News, Sports, Jobs


The Hollidaysburg Area High School boys tennis team suffered its first loss with a 3-2 setback to unbeaten Fairview at the Summit Tennis and Athletic Club on Friday.

Fairview, which was a PIAA semifinalist last season, won both doubles matches and the No. 3 singles match in close contests.

Nathan Barton and Jadd Younes won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, for the Golden Tigers.

Tigers falter

BELLEFONTE — Dominic Capperella struck out nine in pitching Bellefonte’s baseball team past Hollidaysburg, 5-3.

The Golden Tigers (1-3), down 4-0 after two innings, got two RBIs from Landon Perry and two hits from Matt Smith.

Krawcion has big day

EBENSBURBG — Jordan Krawcion’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Central Cambria’s softball team to a 6-5 win over Chestnut Ridge on Friday.

Krawcion’s other hit in the game was a three-run homer as she finished the game with five RBIs. Aubrey Ruddek and Jordyn Burkett each scored twice for the Lady Red Devils.

Winning pitcher Kami Kamzik struck out 15, walked one and scattered five hits in getting the win for the Lady Red Devils (4-0). Kamzik also had a solo home run.

Losing pitcher Zoey Dunlap struck out seven, walked five and gave up six hits. She also finished with two RBIs.

PC defeated

SIDMAN — Mylee Gdula hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to lift Forest Hills to a 9-8 win over Penn Cambria’s softball team.

The Lady Panthers (1-2), who led 5-3 after three innings, got three RBIs from Jerzy Vinglish and two more from Patty Wagner. Vinglish also had two hits to go with three from Sophia Rabatin.

Game rescheduled

The AAHS Lady Lions StriKeOut Cancer softball game against Hollidaysburg scheduled for Saturday was postponed because of the weather. The game was rescheduled for Saturday, April 16, at 11 a.m. at Logan Elementary School.

The game is in honor of family members of botht eams who have cancer, or who have won their battle with cancer. A baloon release will be held in memory for those family members who lost their battle with cancer.

There will be raffle baskets, 50-50 ticket sales and JUST CURE IT tshirts for sale, as well as a full concession stand. One survivor will be chosen to throw out the first pitch of the game.

Both the JV and varsity games will begin at 11 a.m.
