Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on Friday. But over the weekend, Xbox players started reporting crashes before they could even launch the game.
After rave reviews, Activision announced plans last month to bring Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 to next-gen consoles and the Nintendo Switch. The PlayStation 5 version appears to be working fine, but Xbox players are reporting the inability to even get into the game when in offline mode. Fans started tweeting and complaining to Activision and Xbox support over the weekend.
This news is especially bitter for next-gen players as — unlike many other Xbox games — Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 doesn’t utilize Microsoft’s Smart Delivery system. Players who own the base version of the games on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 had to upgrade to the Digital Deluxe version for an additional $10 in order to get the next-gen versions.
Because of the lack of Smart Delivery, some fans are comparing this to another bungled Xbox Series X launch from Activision after Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War had similar issues with crashes on the Series X late last year. It’s currently unclear if or when Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 will run without a hitch on the latest Microsoft console, but some fans have already reportedly argued their way into a refund.
