Trojans compete at tourney

DONALDSON – Parkers Chapel finished play at the Mike Volz Memorial Tournament by winning its final two games after a setback in their opener.

The Trojans were downed by England 11-4, but rallied to top DeWitt 8-2 and Ouachita 16-2.

In their win over the Dragons, the Trojans scored six runs in the second inning to take control.

Trace Shoup homered and drove in four runs while going 2-for-4 for PC.

Reid Cates, who was the winning pitcher, drove in two runs for the Trojans while going 1-for-3.

Chris Greer and Austin Looney both had one hit and one RBI in the win.

Spencer Frisby and Blake Caldwell each had hit for PC.

Cates finished with a four-hitter and both runs he allowed were unearned. He walked four and struck out four.

In their finale, the Trojans erupted for 11 runs in the fifth to pull away.

Shoup had a monster day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and five RBIs in the win.

He also scored four runs.

Greer went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs, while Mason Dougan was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Overall, the Trojans had 13 hits in the win with Looney and Branson Bryant chipping in with one hit and one RBI apiece.

Wyatt New and Paytin Greene rounded out the Trojans with one hit each.

Caleb Barnes, who threw a one-hitter against Bradley last week, picked up the win in relief, allowing two hits and one unearned run over 4 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out one.

Shoup, who went 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and two RBIs against England, finished the three games by going 8-for-10 with three homers and 11 RBIs.
