As of late as you may hear me smear on the podcast this week, I was weirdly engrossed in American Truck Simulator. It’s just a glorified road trip sim where you’re hauling cargo from Point A to B to the western parts of the United States. Yet its satisfying to do and lets me see the (virtual) sights of these states.
While I was playing it, I am still thinking about how it would take this game and its sister game (European Truck Simulator 2) to create amazing MMOs. The real thing is that that’s possible. While there are no servers that support multiplayer, enterprising players have made an MMORPG mod for the game called TruckersMP.
The mod allows more than 2,000 players to drive truck trucks on the same server, but it also includes guilds, seasonal events, chat moderation, and support continues. The only thing that TruckersMP does not include is the AI. That’s partly due to all of the players on the road.
At TruckersMP we take the simulation seriously. In this world, travelers will go across the US and Europe. Even with ProMods, the world is your oyster, said the team.
