An eye-watering 80 per cent of Elden Ring’s physical sales in the UK were purchased on the PlayStation 5 and PS4. Of the overall sales mix, 63 per cent of players plumped up for the PlayStation 5 version, while 17 per cent skewered the punishing action RPG on the PS4. Just three per cent purchased a boxed PC copy, with the remaining 17 per cent of physical copies gobbled up on Xbox.
It’s worth reiterating that this sales data only takes physical sales into account, and a whopping 49 per cent of Horizon Forbidden West’s sales were made digitally last week. As such, this is a small snapshot of the overall sales picture.
The good news for Elden Ring is that it’s outperforming all previous Souls games at retail, including Dark Souls 3, which it outsold by 26 per cent physically. When you consider that the digital sales mix has increased dramatically since the 2016 sequel, it’s safe to say this game is selling very well indeed.
Horizon Forbidden West still had a better launch than the punishing FromSoftware title, although its sales dropped 79 per cent week-over-week, which is somewhat expected – especially seeing as PS5 stock was non-existent in the UK last week yet again.
Elsewhere, the only other notable new arrival was GRID Legends, which charted 18th in the physical sales charts overall, and enjoyed 73 per cent of its sales on the PS5 and PS4. We’ve included the top ten below, but if you’re one of the Brits who’s been buying new games of late, don’t forget to check out our Elden Ring guide and Horizon Forbidden West guide.
