Alabama had to hang on in the final play of the game to secure a razor-thin 24-20 win at home over Texas A&M. Despite two missed field goals and four turnovers, the No. 1 Crimson Tide found a way to hang on and improve to 6-0. Alabama quarterback and reigning Heisman winner Bryce Young was out with a shoulder injury and backup Jalen Milroe had an up-and-down game in his absence.
Young’s status will be very important for Alabama’s road game against No. 8 Tennessee next week.
Meanwhile, UCLA suddenly look like one of the Pac-12 favorites after an emphatic 42-32 victory over No. 11 Utah at home on Saturday. Led by quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (299 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT) and running back Zach Charbonnet (198 rushing yards, 1 TD), the Bruins scored at will against the Utes to improve to 6-0 and 3-0 in conference play. Watch out for UCLA.
Across town, USC also improved to 6-0 with an impressive 30-14 win over Washington State. The two Los Angeles schools are in great shape in the early portion of conference play.
