It is hard to believe this is the last day of 2021. Like 2020, it has had its own unique challenges, but also some interesting shifts in the subscription marketplace. The latest headlines include a look at why publishers like Vox Media are merging with their rivals, Snapchat Spotlight has paid out $250M to 12,000 creators this year, and The Guardian has grown to more than 1M recurring digital subscribers. Also, Stripe says the $95B fintech company won’t file for an IPO after all, PlayStation and Xbox are among the top gaming subscriptions, and Reddit will shut down short form video platform Dubsmash in 2022.
