Weird Skyrim Image Shows NPC Walking Around Without a Head

A weird (and humorous) new image from The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has surfaced online, and it focuses on a glitch in the game that makes an NPC walk around without a head. Skyrim is widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever made and is also one of the most profitable games in history, but that doesn’t mean the game has not seen its fair share of criticism over the years, mainly in regard to the wide variety of bugs and glitches present in every release of the popular game. Still, some glitches are humorous and lead to a lot of talk about other glitches and bugs found within the game.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Skyrim has been released on numerous platforms since its original debut back in 2011. Since then, a remastered version for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC was released called The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim – Special Edition. Then, there were the Switch version and VR releases of the game in 2017 and 2018. Finally, there was The Elder Scrolls 5: Anniversary Edition, which was released for modern consoles in 2021 and added a graphical overhaul and a few new features like fishing. Throughout all these versions, though, one thing has stayed consistent: Skyrim has a lot of glitches.

In a post made to Reddit by user Serious_Wrangler2651, a player has found popular NPC Ria completely missing her head and still talking to the player. While absurd and humorous on its own, what makes it even funnier is the dialogue between Ria and the player-character. The player-character can ask for her help, but in this case, it looks like Ria is the one that might need a bit of assistance. Skyrim might have a lot of bugs and glitches, but only a couple of them are severe, like the menu bug in Skyrim Anniversary Edition.

The dialogue between the characters is what really sells this glitch. According to Ria, nothing is wrong in the slightest. Other comments on the thread are full of jokes regarding heads and references to popular films like Monty Python and the Holy Grails‘s infamous black knight scene. Ria is a follower NPC that can help the player out in combat, but it is a common issue in the game in which followers in Skyrim can get trapped or end up being unable to return to the player.

Skyrim‘s impact on the gaming industry is undeniable. The game, at one point, was considered to be the pinnacle of open-world game design by many. With every release of the game, though, the developers seemingly create new glitches while sometimes fixing old ones, and some Skyrim players will even use mods to restore previously fixed bugs. While glitches like this one found by Serious_Wrangler2651 are fairly harmless, it can be frustrating for players that a game released 11 years ago still has a lot of glitches. But with mod support and being able to play the game on virtually any platform, Skyrim is still a game that keeps on giving.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
